Air Force 69th Birthday Celebration

On Friday evening, about 30 members and spouses of the Tennessee Valley Chapter of the Air and Space Forces Association (AFA) celebrated the 79th Birthday of the United States Air Force at Straight-to-Ale (STA) in Huntsville, Alabama.  There was great food and home-brewed beer; a collage slideshow of the 79 years of Air Force history created by Lt Col (Ret) Zyg Jastrebski; a USAF history trivia contest created and led by former Chapter President Lt Col (Ret) John Pennell; and a whiskey toast provided gratis by Community Partner STA.  As is tradition, the cake was cut by the senior officer present, Brigadier General (Ret) Gary Conor; the person who entered the Air Force at the earliest date, Lt Col (Ret) Daryl Carpenter (1962); and the person who entered the Air Force most recently, MSgt Brent Knox (2011).  After much good old Air Force camaraderie, the evening ended with everyone standing and singing a rousing version of the Air Force song!!
