Mr. Dick Christiansen, Col. (Ret.) Bob Hovde, Chapter VP for Aerospace Education, and Cadet Col. Carson Mignano
The Tennessee Valley Chapter of the Air and Space Forces Association awards a $2,000 college scholarship annually to a senior cadet from each of the three local Air and Space Force Junior ROTC units: Bob Jones, Mae Jemison, and Huntsville High School. The top cadet among them receives an extra $500, bringing the total to $2,500. Our organization named this award after Mr. Howard Christiansen, a World War II veteran and long-time member of the association. Although Howard passed away in 2014, his memory and legacy continue through this scholarship, supported by our chapter of the Air and Space Forces Association and the Christiansen family, which is represented by Howard’s son, Dick Jr., who lives here in Huntsville. This year’s recipient of the “Howard Christiansen” scholarship is Huntsville High School Cadet Colonel Carson Mignano.
